Red Ribbon Expess, carrying messages to promote public awareness about HIV/AIDS, arrived on Saturday to a warm welcome by people from various walks of life.
The specially designed train, which has travelled approximately 4,000 km across the country covering 13 states, arrived at Secunderabad station.
Representatives of NGOs working in the area of HIV awareness, people living with HIV/AIDS and members of various government organizations were seen gathering at the station.
The Project Director, A P State AIDS Control Society, Chandravadan said that Red Ribbon Express would help to minimize the stigma and discrimination attached to HIV/AIDS.
He said 1,200 new STD clinics were being set up in the state covering the risk groups like migrant workers, truckers, auto rickshaw and bus drivers.
"We are also planning for condom promotion in an integrated manner that will also include female condoms", the official said.
Rana, CEO of Red Ribbon Express, said that despite scorching heat there has been a very good response to the initiative in AP.
Conceptulised by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, the RRE Project is being implemented by the National Aids Control Organization (NACO) in collaboration with the Indian Railways, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), State Aids Control Societies (SACS) and UNICEF.
